2011 Porsche 911 Turbo S

After a five year wait, Porsche has officially revealed the new 2011 Porsche 911 Turbo S, the latest to carry the Turbo S moniker for the German auto giant. The new 911 is powered by a twin-turbo flat-six engine with a hefty 530 horsepower. That heartbeat will push this Porsche to 62 mph in 3.3 seconds on its way to a top speed of 196 mph. For reference, that’s even faster than the Porsche 911 GT2, that will hit 62mph from the line at 3.7 seconds, but tops out at a speedier 204 mph.
The new 2011 Porsche 922 Turbo S will be revealed at the Geneva Motor Show next month, before going on sale in Europe this May. The coupe will be priced at roughly $236,000, while a cabriolet model will sell for $250,000. If you’re patient, US models should arrive shortly thereafter…

Same shit. I’ve never liked Porsche’s design. It’s always pretty much the same well-known shape – looking like a squashed sporty VW Beetle. Let’s say It’s ok for a classic Carrera or 911 but come on. The Cayenne family is bullshit, normal Porsche with higher base and bigger wheels?! And why on earth would they want to digg in 4×4 territory, it’s not their plate and I guess It just doesn’t suit them.
I’ve never thought they look like VW Beetles.
I don’t care too much what something looks like, but I do like Porsches because they don’t change for the sake of it, and the look just comes from engineering that works, albeit in their own very different way. If the shape was rubbish, they’d struggle to get the performance I guess. I couldn’t imagine spending any more than about £3000 on a car! However, I think the car world would seem lacking without Porsches, moreso than if another make of supercar disappeared. Obviously the previous comments about the 4×4′s are known to be true by most people who’ve ever seen one!
I’m calling bullshit on your bullshit. How can you say the Cayman is not good looking? I think it looks even better than the 911!
Granted, Ferrari makes some of the best looking cars, and Porsche has stayed with the basic 911 look, but it is a good look.
If you’ve never owned a Porsche, you would not understand!
Yeah, Michael, surely you’ve owned one…
I have a Ferrari 550 and last year I bought a used 2007 997TT.
Porsche is a better manufacturer, the 997 could eat any Ferrari up to a 599 and out on the highway, the fact that it looks like just another Porsche 911 keeps the insects who want to take on the Ferrari at bay.
This year, I’ll fly to Stuttgart in June/July to receive a 911 Turbo S, which I’ll break in on the autobahn and the Alps and end up in Berlin.
not same shit , refined shit ….
and this is some very good shit indeed , and someone doesn’t know their shit it would seem ?
porsche has always seemed to follow their own drummer , you either get it or don’t ,if you don’t no harm more for those who like them .
and yes, to support themselves they have compromised a bit making models not true to the core,
and adding cup holders and time clocks on the dash and suv’s …oh dear?
…but when it comes down to who dose it and dose it well consistently , porsche will always be in the top of the mix.
personally a fan of the GT3 – to an untrained eye its the same shit on a diet ,
however the good shit is the shit you don’t see, and concerning the body, the vents aren’t there to make the car look cool… they do stuff. when driving you will appreciate the body style more from the inside, the visibility is far better in the 911 that most sports cars. ( yes I know the wing on the GT3 blocks mid range , i’m talking corners of the vehicle )
- and anytime you can pull 530bhp, 500ftlbs.+ from a six banger , that is as mechanically reliable as grand pa’s rocking chair … i mean come on you sit in the thing and it always goes – that’s porsche !
oh and by the way ( forgot to add) the 4×4 territory , well my friend please read up on your porsche history, race & rally history .
Porsche has been there and done that too!- right up there with sister audi :)
“the 4×4 territory” has/had been a large part of porsches r&d .
remember the 959, a major show case back in the day , a car that today could still school most on the road .
much of Porsche’s race tech will trickle down to street vehicles you and I can purchase ,
this is some really fine and proven hardware , from ceramic brakes , vario cams, vario vane turbos ,the list goes on and on …. and yep 4×4 too.
The 2010-11 GT3 R/RS and 997 Turbo S are truly awe inspiring cars. It’s difficult to convey just how well these cars handle, brake, and accelerate if you’ve never driven one. The GT3 RS is a track car plain and simple. I’ve tracked 180hp Suzuki GSX-R 1000, 125cc Tag Senior Karts and I’ll say uncategorically the GT3 RS is the best tracked vehicle of all of them. Point it and go, end of story! 997 Turbo S is obviously not designed for track action, but I’m hearing there’s no noticeable turbo lag and it’s down right scary how smooth this bad boy is.
