The Woven collection created by New Zealand based designer Timothy John uses weaving and wrapping techniques to create unique works of functional art. The collection includes two hanging lamps, a vase, coffee table and a stand-up clock. The monochromatic black constructs push the limits of the cloth materials hence taking traditional subject matter and making it fresh and modern. The thick knotted texture provides for a sturdy functionality and interesting aspect of the pieces. Design plays a large role as form and function work together to achieve a bold yet lovely elegance in the Woven Collection. [via contemporist]
