When boys become men, the dreams of childhood are never lost. The dreams stay the same, the toys just get more complicated. The Ariel Atom 3.5R is the kind of driving experience the kid in all of us lives for, a grown man’s go-kart of sorts. The Ariel Atom 3.5R is an open-cockpit roadster that uses high-performance components and a lightweight build for racecar-worthy performance. It’s fully street-legal, making the roads around you the playground of your choice. In terms the kid in you might understand– “vroom, vroom”.
The Ariel Atom 3.5R is powered by a Honda Type R 2.0-liter engine that produces about 350-horsepower. Given that the down-to-the-basics body of the Atom 3.5R weighs only 1,212 pounds, 350-horsepower makes for a ridiculous power-to-weight ratio. That translates to a 0-60mph take-off in just 2.5 seconds, a mark faster than nearly every production sports car on the market today. Oh, and if 60mph isn’t going to do it for you, it’ll only take another second before the Ariel Atom 3.5R hits 100.
The new Ariel Atom 3.5R will be priced at around $135,000 after conversion from British Pounds, but you shouldn’t expect to see this exact model in the States any time soon. Ariel is said to be planning the revelation of an American version of the 3.5R in a matter of weeks, fulfilling many a childhood dream when it arrives. We’ll be here for a test drive if you need it, Ariel.
