A new modern residence has taken shape in Sydney, Australia, one reflecting the progressive spirit of architecture down under. The Cosgriff House by Christopher Polly Architect fits a magnificent contemporary structure into a constricted urban space, one not uncommon for its neighborhood in Sydney. The home comprises public spaces on its bottom level that open out to an enclosed patio in the rear, while bedrooms and other private spaces are located above. Slatted shutters open and close to allow light in or keep prying eyes out as the day progresses. Indoors, clean white walls and ceilings allow the inhabitants to provide their own color with furnishings and art, while the breezy, subtropical climate of Sydney is given visual emphasis through floor-to-ceiling windows. In total, it’s a striking design for a single family in Sydney, a nice step forward in design down under.
