The somber facial expressions portrayed in Gavin Brown‘s paintings seem to balance with the upbeat and vibrant colors he uses. Although the Australian painter’s surrealistic graffiti style uses luscious and bold colors, the paintings are left with an unexpected sinister ambiance within the deep stares of his subjects. Humans intermingle with nature as Brown paints people among flowers, or in the water around fish and exotic birds.
