The Fiat Lux Lamp: Magic Magnetism

We’ll go out on a limb here– you’ve never seen a pendant lamp like this before.  The Fiat Lux Lamp by Constance Guisset and Grégory Cid uses the magic of magnetism and a floating orb “switch” to fill your room with light.  See that floating ball a few inches below the lamp?  That ball remains fixed in space when the light is illuminated, and as soon as its user pulls that ball from orbit the light turns off.  When not in use, the ball rests magnetically attached to the side of the lamp, waiting to return to its glowing orbit.  The gallery below will give you a better idea of how this lamp works, but the video demonstration on Constance Guisset’s website cannot be missed.
