A 15th century palace has been restored into a new museum on the island of Corsica in the Mediterranean Sea. The Palais Des Gouverneurs Museum has been given a design that saved a building that had fallen largely into disrepair, preserving its history and giving it a new life for the local municipality. The Palais Des Gouverneurs Museum houses a collection of art in a space that joins classical structure with contemporary forms, a contrast which is expressed throughout the building’s gallery rooms. In some areas, the old palace is untouched in design, and in others an entirely new place exists. It’s a work of architecture that both praises the original and introduces the style of modernity.
