Diane Keaton: “My favorite room in my home is that damn kitchen”: inside the Los Angeles house she built with 75,000 bricks

Diane Keaton was famous for her films, her hats and her laugh. But those close to the house world knew another side of her: for decades, she bought, restored and transformed homes. One of them, her Los Angeles house built with tens of thousands of bricks, says more about her than any interview.

In short

  • Diane Keaton, who died on Oct. 11, 2025, at 79, renovated and sold homes for decades.
  • Her last major project was a brick house in Los Angeles nicknamed “the house that Pinterest built.”
  • It was built with 75,000 hand-selected bricks sourced from Chicago, according to TMZ.
  • This summer, the house found a buyer at about $23 million, according to TMZ.

“That damn kitchen”

Keaton never hid her love for houses. “I always had an interest in homes and the concept of home,” she told Wine Spectator, in remarks quoted by Fox Business. About this house in particular, she said: “I started to really love the brick and the textures of it.” And her favorite room? “My favorite room in my home is that damn kitchen.”

75,000 bricks and a chicken coop

The house, a gut renovation that began around 2011, was nicknamed “the house that Pinterest built.” She lived there for about eight years, Fox Business reported.

According to TMZ, the 9,219-square-foot estate has five bedrooms and eight bathrooms. Its foundation uses 75,000 hand-selected bricks sourced from Chicago, an idea inspired by “The Three Little Pigs.” In the kitchen, the room she loved most, there’s a custom island, chicken-wire cabinetry and pendant lights that came from a former chicken coop.

A real estate career alongside Hollywood

The house was far from her first project. Fox Business traced a long list of homes she bought, restored and resold: a 1928 Lloyd Wright house in Los Feliz, a Spanish Colonial Revival in Beverly Hills, a house in Laguna Beach, another in Pacific Palisades, an adobe in Tucson. “I follow my impulses just like I did with acting,” she told Architectural Digest in 2017. Her approach was consistent: “My feeling is that you find an authentic house and, authentically, try to restore it.”

Sold this summer

After her death, the house went on the market. It was first listed at $28.9 million and went under contract in July 2026 for about $23 million, TMZ reported, with some conditions still pending at the time. Real estate broker Josh Flagg handled the listing.

A kitchen at the heart of the house is a choice many homeowners understand. If yours is due for a change, see why many kitchens are saying goodbye to the microwave and what’s replacing the toaster.

The limit

Price figures for celebrity homes vary from one outlet to another, and a contract isn’t a closed sale: the final price may differ. We stuck to the figures reported by TMZ and Fox Business. What doesn’t change is Keaton’s own words about the place she built.

That’s the story.
