The trick: light hidden in the architecture, hands off

Sitting flush with the drywall, the strips let the ceiling read as smooth plaster with lines of light rather than a lineup of downlights. With the walls bare on both sides, the corridor feels wider than it actually is. A motion sensor by the entry means the person carrying the laundry basket never has to fumble for a switch, and the light fades off a minute after they leave.
