Mercedes-Benz has revealed the new 2014 Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG, an all-wheel drive sedan that continues the brand’s fusion of high performance and luxury standards. The latest S-class by Mercedes improves on its predecessors with a common point of evolution shared by most supercars– it’s getting lighter, smarter and more efficient. The S63 AMG sheds 220 pounds from a range of lightweight components, a move to squeeze every extra inch of performance capacity out of an impressive drivetrain. Under the hood, the S63 features a 5.5-liter V8 engine that commands about 577 horsepower, an increase of 41 horses over the 2013 model. From a standing start, that will push this all-wheel cruiser to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds, a competitive figure that bests the Porsche 911 Carrera S. That explains the emphasis on lowering curb weight, because if you take back the 220 pounds this Merc shed, it might not keep that performance advantage over its competitors.
The new 2014 Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG will arrive in a showroom near you this fall. Pricing has not yet been released, but expect it to carry a price tag similar to the $140k offering of the 2013 model.
