The new BMW 4-Series Gran Coupe is a “hybrid” of a different sort. It features the sporty, sleek styling of a coupe with the four-door access of a sedan. While the coupe has traditionally been the vehicle of choice for the sport driver, this one has easy access for a party of five. It erases a fine line that has been drawn between sports car coupe and family car sedan, yielding a new kind of vehicle for those that want the best of both worlds.
The BMW 4-Series Gran Coupe features a longer, wider track stance than the coupes that have come before it, while maintaining the same dimensions as its current two-door counterpart. This Gran Coupe doesn’t skip the speedy spirit just to fit a family of four, as it offers a premium turbocharged engine for driving excitement. The line-leading BMW 435i is powered by that turbocharged 3.0L six-cylinder engine that delivers 305 horsepower, enough to push this lightweight coupe to 62mph in just 5.5 seconds.
Beyond the fusion of “four door” and “coupe” options in the mold-breaking 4-Series Gran Coupe, much of the current generation of BMW styling has remained the same. From the front-to-the-back, this one features the latest looks from BMW as shown off at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit last month. It’s a late entrant, but one seriously worth drooling over. If you’re a young family of means who wants easy access to the car seat for kids in the back, this is one to drive.
